Venezuelan-bred Paso Real won the $100,000 Copa
Confraternidad at El Comandante race track in Canóvanas,
Puerto Rico. The stakes race for three-year-olds and older
that were bred in countries belonging to Caribbean Horse
Racing Confederation was Saturday's feature race and part of
the two-day Serie del Caribe Hipica.
Ridden
by Angel Castillo and trained by Julio Ayala, Paso Real came
from well of the pace and caught pacesetter Danzig Prince
Race (Mex), with less than one furlong to go for the win.
Earlier in the afternoon, Leyenda Dorada,
with John Bisono in the irons, came from just off the pace
to win the $87,440 Copa Dama del Caribe. The three-year-old
daughter of Gold Legend out of Itsallgreytome, by Vigors,
represented Puerto Rico. She is trained by Ramón Morales for
owner Juan Carlos Negrón.
Venezuela was also represented well in
the $74,950 Copa Velocidad when Furioso, under Emisael
Jaramillo, took the early lead and never surrendered his
advantage, easily winning the six-furlong event for
three-year-olds and older for trainer Juan Avila.
Joel Rosario from the Dominican Republic
won the Jockey Challenge.
The Serie del Caribe Hipica continues on
Sunday with three more stakes races, featuring the $300,000
