Venezuelan super
horse My Own Business won the
international $100,000 Copa
Confraternidad, part of the
Caribbean Series that is taking part
at El Comandante Racetrack in Puerto
Rico.
Ridden by jockey Angel A. Castillo
and trained by Antonio Bellardi, the
son of Voyageur won his 37th race in
50 starts since his debut in 1999
while campaigning in Venezuela,
Puerto Rico and the U.S, The winner
also makes history as the only horse
that has won the Confraternidad for
the second time.
In second place came another
Venezuelan, Gran Abuelo, then
arrived Cortisol from Panama,
Libertador from Puerto Rico, Voodoo
King from Panama, Estaca de Guayacán
from Colombia and Nunca Más from
Dominican Republic respectively.
This represented the last race for
My Own Business that will serve as a
stallion at Haras San Isidro in
Venezuela.
The other international race run
Sunday were the $115,000 Copa
Velocidad (Caribbean Sprint) and the
$75,000 Copa Dama del Caribe
(Caribbean Distaff). The
six-furlongs Copa Velocidad was
easily won by Puerto Rican filly
Andiroba. Ridden by Wilfredo Rohena
and trained by Julio Díaz Jr., the
daughter of Lord Carson, defeated
other 12 colts and fillies by 8
lengths. In second place came
Aristoteles from Panamá, followed by
King Arnold from Venezuela, Sciuppa
Femina from Panamá and the tie for
fifth place between Lord Gittens
from Panama and Hispanica from
Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico repeated victory in the
8.5 furlongs Copa Dama del Caribe,
with Alanita. Also ridden by Rohena
and trained by Díaz, Alanita
defeated other 11 fillies and
proclaimed the best in the Caribbean
Sea. Puerto Rico's Bancada came on
second, followed by Primer Sol from
Venezuela, Asialatina also from
Venezuela and Mariah Lo representing
Dominican Republic completed the
money places.
